India ex-minister arrested over gang rape allegation

Three years after being accused, a former minister of northern Indian state Uttar Pradesh has been arrested for his involvement in a gang rape.

Gayatri Prajapati was arrested in the state capital, of Lucknow, on Wednesday.

Prajapati and three other suspects have been accused of gang-raping a woman and molesting her daughter, thought to be a minor.

The allegations were made in 2014, but the police case was registered last month after protests from opposition political party officials and activists.

Local police have confirmed the investigations are on-going.
