A state in India has seen its second leader in the space of a week.
HD Kumaraswamy has been sworn in as the new chief minister in India's southern state of Karnataka, replacing BS Yeddyurappa of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) – which is in national government.
Mr Yeddyurappa was in office for less than three days and resigned before a vote of confidence, which was held because he did not hold a majority.
Mr Kumaraswamy will head a coalition government of the main opposition Congress party and Janata Dal (S), a regional ally.
Analysts believe losing Karnataka would have been a major blow for Congress, which ruled only three of India's 29 states before Mr Kumaraswamy took the oath. The BJP and its allies are in power in 21.
