An eight-year-old Indian boy has been shot dead in police crossfire in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh.
It is believed the boy was playing in a field in Mathura on Wednesday, 17 January, when he was killed.
Local media have reported that local villagers told them the police fired at a group of men who did not retaliate and managed to escape.
Rights groups have claimed that police in the country stage “fake encounters” to achieve lower crime rates, a claim the police deny.
Four officers have been suspended in connection with the incident.
