Indian magician disappears in river following stunt

Authorities in India are searching for a magician after he went missing in a river during a stunt.

Chanchal Lahiri attempted to recreate Harry Houdini's famed trick by jumping shackled into a river.

He was meant to escape and swim to safety but did not emerge from the Hooghly river in West Bengal state.

Police and a team of divers canvassed the area but had been unable to find Lahiri. One officer told the Hindustan Times newspaper that the magician could not be declared dead until the body was found.
