Concerns have been raised over information being leaked from the world’s largest identity database in India.
It has been reported that personal details have been sold for as little as Rs. 500 – roughly £5.80 – from the Aadhaar biometric identity scheme, with the buyer gaining access to information including name, address, photo, phone number and email address.
India’s Tribune newspaper claimed that it bought such details via an "agent" advertising his services on WhatsApp.
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has ordered a probe into what it calls “unauthorised access” to its database.
