A Pakistani shoemaker has been fined for a present he has made as an Eid gift for Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Nooruddin Shinwari’s shop in Peshawar City was raided and two pairs of traditional Peshwari sandals confiscated for violating the country’s Wildlife Act.
Shinwari claimed snakeskin he used for the sandals had been sent from the US to his shop for him to craft two pairs, one for the donor and one for Prime Minister Khan.
He received the sandals back after paying a hefty fine of Rs 50,000 and signing an affidavit that he would not use the skin of an exotic animal in footwear again.
