A man accused of sexually assaulting a 4-year-old in the Pandav Nagar area of East Delhi was lynched by a group of locals.
The 24-year-old was allegedly caught in the act in a local park.
Police say that the man, identified only as Sonu, was admitted to a hospital on Friday night but succumbed to his injuries on Saturday evening, 10 June.
It is reported that the child went missing but was found by family members, who allege they found the girl undressed with Sonu trying to force himself on her.
He was dragged out by a group of locals who thrashed him before handing him over to the police.
Sonu's family contradict the claims of the other locals, saying that he was killed days earlier following an argument with the child's father.
Cases of culpable homicide have been registered against the vigilante group.
