On 3rd October 2016, Khadija Begum Nargis was attacked by Badrul Alam. Khadija was attacked on the Sylhet MC College premises, where she had gone to take an exam earlier that day.
Badrul He was caught by the people who witnessed the attack and was handed over to the police. A video of the attack went viral on social media triggering protests across Bangladesh.
Badrul used a machete to hurt Khadija, leaving her with wounds all over her body and head which ruptured her skull and injured her brain. She was put on life support at Dhaka’s Square Hospital.
At a hearing at the Sylhet Metropolitan Court, Judge Akbar Hossain Mridha announced the verdict.
Badrul was sentenced to a life imprisonment and a fine for 5000 Takas.
