A model has been jailed for plotting to kill a film-maker in Mumbai.
Preeti Jain has been sentenced to three years in prison and is expected to pay a fine of Rs10,000 for plotting to murder film-maker Madhur Bhandarkar.
It is alleged that the model, who had previously filed a rape case against the film-maker, approached Naresh Pardeshi to kill Bhandarkar in 2005, offering Rs75,000 for the job.
When the task was not carried out she demanded her money back.
A short time later the issue was alerted to the police.
Pardeshi and another associate, Shivram Das, also received sentences of three years imprisonment on charges of aiding and abetting a crime, and conspiracy.
Bhandarkar reacted to the verdict with a tweet: “Some things are better left unsaid! Some things are better left as they are. Life moves on, so have I.”
