A Muslim man from India was beaten to death after allegedly asking a group to stop playing music on New Year’s Day.
The incident took place in Mandar, a town close to the state capital of the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand.
It is suspected 19-year-old Waseem Ansari asked a group who were playing loud music next to a Muslim cemetery to stop and was subsequently killed after a fight broke out.
Locals blocked a motorway in protest on Tuesday 2 January, demanding the arrest of suspects. They were eventually cleared by police, who say extra personnel have been deployed in the area to maintain the peace between Muslim and Hindu communities.
