Newborn baby dies after being thrown from 17th floor flat by mother in Mumbai

A new-born baby girl has died after being thrown off the 17th floor of a building by her mother in Mumbai on Thursday evening.

The incident was reported at around 4pm when the baby was found dead in a nearby building.

Early reports of the incident indicate that the mother had given birth to the baby earlier on Thursday afternoon in the bathroom of her flat.

According to police, the woman threw her child from the 17th floor during an argument with her husband, claiming he was not taking care of her.

Speaking on the situation, an investigating officer said: "We might not arrest the woman presently. Her statement is to be recorded and the husband's statement will also be recorded.

“Several other people in the neighbourhood are being questioned.”
