A new-born baby girl is recovering in hospital after being found buried alive in a shallow grave in northern India.
According to reports, the new-born was found concealed in an earthen pot by another villager who had gone to the burial grounds to bury his own child, who had died minutes after being born.
The infant was rushed to hospital, where she is now recovering, and police have launched an investigation into the matter.
Speaking on the matter, local police chief Abhinandan Singh said: "We are trying to find the parents of the baby and we suspect that this must have happened with their consent."
Mr Singh also outlined the events which led up to her discovery, saying: "As [the villager was] digging a grave for her, at a depth of three feet, the spade hit an earthen pot, which was pulled out. There was a baby lying in it.
"The police took the baby to the city hospital where she is getting treatment."
