Pakistan court rejects model’s pleas in smuggling case

The Lahore High Court has rejected a plea from a model to cancel her arrest warrants.

Ayyan Ali, 25, was arrested on 14 March 2015 for allegedly attempting to smuggle $506,800 in cash to the United Arab Emirates at Benazir Bhutto International Airport in Islamabad.

Her name was linked to high-profile politicians and it was alleged that she was a conduit for their money laundering operations.

Her name was placed on the Exit Control List but a Supreme Court bench allowed her to go abroad in 2017.

The high court registrar in Lahore said that the case cannot be fixed for hearing as the model is not in the country.
