Pakistan’s Supreme Court has ordered the restoration of taxes on mobile phone top-ups.
In June 2018, the court had suspended the deduction of taxes on prepaid cards provided by mobile phone service providers.
The bench had taken up a case relating to an unreasonably high amount of tax and other charges being deducted from the topping up of mobile balances, a case brought by the Human Rights Cell of the Supreme Court.
Chief Justice Khosa reversed the decision yesterday (24 April), saying the top court "would not interfere in the matters of public revenue and tax collection".
