The presidential elections in Pakistan could be facing delays.
There is just over a month to go until the expiry of President Mamnoon Hussain's tenure but the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) expects voting for his successor to be delayed as neither the National nor provincial assemblies are functional as yet following the country’s general election.
President Hussain's five-year term is set to expire on 9 September and, according to the constitution, the presidential election must be held at least a month prior to the expiry of the incumbent's term – giving the assemblies until the 8 August.
However, an ECP source believes they will not be running until at least 10 August. It is expected an election may now take place in September.
