Paramilitary forces have been deployed to Shillong in India amidst unrest in the capital of Meghalaya state.
Curfews have been enforced in the city following clashes with protestors and security personnel.
It is reported that tensions flared on Thursday 31 May when a fight broke out between Sikhs and bus drivers of Khasi ethnicity.
Sources say that although the parties involved came to a compromise other locals maintained hostilities through the weekend.
