An Indian couple accused of murdering their 14-year-old daughter and their servant in 2008 have been released from jail.
Dentists Rajesh and Nupur Talwar were acquitted on appeal after spending four years in prison in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh.
Their 14-year-old daughter Aarushi Talwar and Nepalese servant, Hemraj Banjade, were found dead at their home in May 2008. Aarushi was found with her throat slit and a fatal head injury at their home in the affluent Delhi suburb of Noida.
Local media reports stated that the high court in Allahabad upheld the appeal and ordered the couple to be released as the evidence produced by the prosecution for the Central Bureau of Investigation was circumstantial and they had failed to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the Talwars had committed the murders.
