Police in Bangladesh have arrested the Chhatra League Leader Amit Saha in connection with the murder of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology student Abrar Fahad on Sunday.
Reports indicate that the 21-year-old university student, was taken by fellow students to a dorm room on campus, known as the ‘torture room’ and beaten to death with blunt objects, including sticks and cricket stumps.
The attack on Mr Fahad was allegedly in response to posts he had made on Facebook, criticising the Bangladeshi government.
Police in Dhaka originally made 13 arrests in connection with the killing, with a further three arrests being made on Thursday, including Amit Saha, the leader of the group accused of carrying out the attack.
In response to the incident, protests have taken place across Bangladesh calling for justice, with the victim’s father pleading for justice, saying: “The university administration has to take strict measures to stop such incidents.
“They should know what’s happening inside their dormitory. They have to hold them accountable.”
