Two police officers who were handed 17-year sentences over the murder of Benazir Bhutto have challenged the decision.
The two senior officials received jail terms for what the court believed was their responsibility in negligence and security lapses that allowed for the attacks on the former prime minister to take place at an election rally in 2007.
They have appealed against the ruling at Lahore’s High Court.
Lawyers speaking on behalf of the two officers said they have been made into “scapegoats” and that they did in fact provide adequate security at the event location.
