The alleged rapists of a teenage girl were caught by her parents, who are police officials.
Local media reports claim parents took action after the police refused to register their complaint.
A gang rape case was registered only after the parents personally caught two suspects and brought them to a police station in the city of Bhopal, in central India.
Two further men have since been arrested.
It is also claimed two police officers have been sacked for refusing to lodge the complaint.
