Three workers have lost their lives in the Cuddalore city of the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
Local police have arrested the founder of a Chennai-based company and a project director of a private firm in connection to the deaths of three workers on charges of causing death by negligence.
Private company Keyem Engineering Enterprises was awarded the contract to clean the drains of Cuddalore and are accused of having previous knowledge of faulty drains that would frequently choke due to an excessive flow of waste.
All three of the victims 28 year old J kumar, 29 year old S Velu, and 39 year old S Murugan, were hired by Keyem to clear an arterial drainage channel at the town centre where they died in a manhole on Monday.
The coroners report confirmed the cause of death as asphyxiation, the district administration team have ordered an inquiry which is on going.
