Thousands of protesters have blocked women from entering one of Hinduism’s holiest shrines.
India’s Supreme Court ruled that women are permitted to enter the Sabarimala temple in Kerala from which they were previously forbidden.
Women of menstruating age - defined as between 10 to 50 – had been barred from entering.
Protesters, including many women, have reportedly attacked vehicles carrying female reporters and stopped a woman from entering the temple.
It is believed tensions may rise as more women are expected to attempt entry.
