Over 1000 people have been detained over protests at a Hindu temple in India.
The Sabarimala temple, one of the holiest in Hinduism, has recently been ordered by India’s Supreme Court to allow women of menstruating age – defined as between 10 and 50 – who had previously been banned to be able to enter.
Women who have tried to gain entry have been blocked by masses of protesters, also containing many women.
Police in Kerala say they are analysing video evidence, have detained over 1000 people for questioning and arrested a number of them.
