Shahbaz Sharif has been elected as the new leader of the PML-N party in Pakistan.
The Punjab Chief Minister’s brother Nawaz Sharif was the party leader and former prime minister but was ruled ineligible to lead the party by the Supreme Court following allegations of corruption.
Addressing the council's meeting in Islamabad after his election on Tuesday 13 March, Shahbaz said he was honoured to have been chosen as the party president but that no one, including himself, could even think about taking the place of Nawaz.
