A solider was arrested yesterday (3 April 2017) at Srinagar airport after he was discovered in possession of two grenades.
It is believed that Bhupal Mukhia, from Darjeeling in West Bengal, was flying to Delhi. The grenades were found by an anti-hijacking team in the soldier’s baggage, who claimed that he was only following the orders of one of his superiors. He informed interrogators that a Major had told him to deliver the explosives to someone in Delhi.
State Police Chief SP Vaid said: “Whether it is an army man or a civilian, everybody will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law.”
The incident occurred a day after a grenade attack by militants in Nowhatta, downtown Srinagar, where a policeman was killed and 14 security personnel were injured.
