Officials in Bangladesh have claimed a terror attack has been averted after an operation in Dhaka left one militant dead.
The Inspector General of Police said the militant, identified as Saiful Islam, intended to detonate explosives on Dhanmondi Road as members of the public paid homage during National Mourning Day yesterday, 15 August.
Reports say Saiful was contained in a hotel during an operation in the Panthapath area of the city and he most likely died after using a suicide vest.
It is believed a passer-by was injured in the explosion but it is suspected there were no other casualties.
