12 schools were burnt down in the Gilgit-Baltistan area of Pakistan.
The incidents took place in the Diamer district on Thursday (2 August) night. Police say in some cases books were found to have been thrown out of the buildings and also set alight.
No casualties have been reported and a group is yet to claim responsibility.
Schools have been razed to the ground before in the region, in 2004 and 2011 – with girls’ schools mostly targeted.
