Twenty-four girls rescued from India shelter

24 girls and young women were rescued from a shelter in India following allegations made to police by inmates.

According to local reports, a 10-year-old girl approached police and accused staff at the shelter in Uttar Pradesh's Deoria district of treating the inmates like servants.

She also said that cars came to pick up girls above 15 years of age and the girls came back crying the next day.

The license of the shelter home has been revoked whilst the home’s director and her husband have been arrested.
