16 people have been arrested by police in India following two further deaths due to rumours spread on social media.
Reports say the two victims had asked for directions in north-eastern Assam state when they were beaten to death by a large mob.
Police believe rumours of unidentified persons abducting children have been spread online, causing spates of attacks.
Six other people have also been killed in similar attacks in the past month.
