Two killed in Kashmir gunfight

A separatist militant and a civilian were killed during a gunfight in south Kashmir.

A newly recruited fighter for the Hizbul Mujahideen, identified as Yawar Nissar Shergujri, was killed in an encounter with security forces in the Karvel area of Anantnag.

A soldier also sustained injuries in the attack.

Reports say a civilian was caught in crossfire whilst riding a motorcycle. The individual was not carrying any credentials and authorities are using mobile phones found on the man to ascertain the victim’s identity.

More than 110 militants have been killed in Jammu and Kashmir between January and July this year.
