A British satellite has been launched in India.
The craft, launched by an Indian rocket from the Satish Dhawan spaceport in Andhra Pradesh, will acquire full-colour, high-definition video of the surface of the Earth.
The satellite is operated by the Guildford-based company Earth-i, who expect to launch a series of at least 15 such spacecraft.
The project aims to capture high-quality footage of the Earth’s surface on a scale never seen before, which could be used, for example, by relief teams entering an earthquake disaster zone.
