A female beggar was lynched by a mob in India in the latest case of child abduction hysteria affecting parts of the country.
The 45-year-old victim, identified as Shantadevi Nath, was begging in the Vadaj area of Gujarat’s Ahmedabad with three other women when they were accused of kidnapping children.
Reports say police claim around 500 to 700 members of the public rounded on the women and beat them.
An official added that by the time officers were able to reach the women they had suffered major injuries, with Shantadevi later pronounced dead at hospital.
