Woman in Faisalabad gang raped

Police officials have confirmed reports of a woman who reported she was gang-raped as a punishment for marrying a man of her of her choice.

She believes the attack was ordered by local influential elders in her village of Tandlianwala district near Faisalabad.

Two and a half months ago, the victim and her husband, Ghulam Fareed, married with their own free-will, despite disapproval by village elders and leaders.

According to the victim, despite her repeated efforts to get a case registered earlier due to pressures from the community the local police has been non-cooperative and reluctant to do so.

However, the station house officer at the local police station has stated an investigation will commence and every effort will be made to get her the justice she deserves.
