India unveiled the world’s tallest statue in the western state of Gujarat.
The bronze-clad structure, depicting independence leader Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel is 182m (600ft) high and cost 29.9bn rupees (£330m; $430m) to build.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the “statue of unity” at a ceremony and claimed it would serve as a major tourist attraction.
But locals have argued the construction was a waste of public money and that the funds could have been put to better use – with some protests reportedly turning violent.
