10-month rugby season rejected by RPA

A proposal to extend Rugby Union’s Premiership season to 10 months has been rejected by the Rugby Players’ Association (RPA).

Following the announcement of the new global calendar in March, Premiership Rugby confirmed the 2019-20 domestic season will start in early September and finish at the end of June.

The RPA raised concerns over player welfare due to the reduced two-month off-season that has been proposed.

The association also has reservations over the added strain to internationals, believing that players who have international commitments over the summer would be overworked by an extended domestic campaign.
