Athletes across the world are dismayed by the prospect that athletics records prior to 2005 will be erased from record books.
The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) has made the proposition to strip the records from history in response to the growing criticisms over their handling of doping.
The IAAF only holds blood and urine samples from 2005 meaning that, if the move should go ahead, world records set by the likes of Paula Radcliffe and Jonathan Edwards will be struck from the books.
The IAAF is expected to approve the proposal in July and it is likely to come into effect within the next 12 months.
