Justin Gatlin was overcome with emotion after a shock win in the Men’s 100m final in the World Championships, tearing up the farewell script for Usain Bolt.
Gatlin, who has served two drug suspensions, was met with boos from a partisan London crowd, who were overwhelmingly anticipating a final win for Bolt.
It was the Jamaican’s last race in the event, as the 30-year-old 19-time gold medal winner hangs up his running shoes with an unprecedented illustrious career in athletics.
Gatlin won with a time of 9.92, with his American compatriot finishing in silver place with a 9.94. Bolt ended his 100m career with a 9.95 sprint to take bronze.
