Elise Christie’s hopes of winning an Olympic medal have been dashed following a controversial heat of the women’s short track 1,000m.
The 27-year-old Britain tripped in the first corner but was allowed to restart after the racers were told to take to the line again.
After a close fought restart, Christie managed to come second to qualify for the next round of the competition but was disqualified for what was judged to be an offence during the race.
There were doubts over her fitness having suffered an ankle injury in Saturday's 1500m semi-final.
The Scot also crashed out of the final of the 500m. History has repeated itself for the world champion skater, who also disqualified from all three events during the Games at Sochi in 2014.
