England knocked out of World Cup by Croatia

England’s dream of reaching the World Cup final in Russia ended in despair after being knocked out by Croatia.

The Three Lions could not have asked for a better start when Kieran Tripper topped off a brilliant individual performance at the tournament with a 20-yard free kick that gave England the lead in five minutes.

They went on to dominate the first half but Croatia played themselves into the game as the match went on, with Real Madrid’s Luka Modric pulling the strings in midfield.

Ivan Perisic equalised in the 68^th minute to send the game into extra time. The match looked destined for penalties until Mario Mandzukic slotted in the winning goal in the 109^th minute.
