Eniola Aluko has ended her silence over claims that she was bullied by the manager of women’s England football team, Mark Sampson.
Aluko, 30, was paid £80,000 by the FA in what has been suspected as hush money but the forward has been granted permission to broadcast her side of the story.
The Nigerian-born footballer, who moved to Birmingham when she was a year old, alleges that, when discussing her family’s plans to travel from Nigeria to watch her play, Sampson made a “racist comment” about them being infected with the Ebola virus.
Talking to BBC Sport, she also claims she suffered “victimisation as a result of reporting discrimination”.
A three-month independent investigation did not uphold any of Aluko's complaints and cleared Sampson and the FA of any wrongdoing but the charity Kick It Out is calling for a fresh inquiry into Aluko’s claims, citing her interview with the BBC as shedding new light on the matter.
Aluko has not been chosen to play for England since making her claims.
