Everton’s woes continue to build following a humiliating defeat at the hands of Italian side Atalanta in a home Europa League tie.
The match, played in front of only 17,431 at Goodison Park, ended 5-1 despite caretaker manager David Unsworth picking experienced players including Wayne Rooney, Kevin Mirallas and Ashley Williams.
Everton were lucky not to have lost by a larger margin, with goalkeeper Joel Robles saving a penalty early in the second-half.
The Toffees already had no chance of qualification from the group stage, managing only a draw and three defeats prior to the match last night, 23 November.
Ronald Koeman was sacked as manager of the Toffees in October, following a dismal start to the season. It looks as though any chance of Unsworth securing the role in a permanent capacity may have slipped away.
