Roger Federer rolled back the years to win Wimbledon for a record eighth time.
The Swiss beat Martin Cilic in a dominant display, winning in straight sets 6-3 6-1 6-4. His performance was in line with his form in the rest of the tournament – he equalled Bjorn Borg’s achievement of not dropping a single set in the whole two weeks.
Cilic, 28, was in tears in the second set of the final, as he struggled with a blister on his left foot.
Federer, at 35, has become the oldest man in the Open era to win the Men's Singles title at the All England Club. His victory has also extended his record to 19 Grand Slam titles.
His eight Wimbledon wins surpasses Pete Sampras and William Renshaw’s records, who won their seventh titles in 2000 and 1889 respectively, with only Martina Navratilova still ahead in terms of Wimbledon singles titles on nine.
