It has been confirmed that a study exploring the link between football and dementia will begin in January.
The Football Association made the announcement following increasing attention around the issue of former players suffering from the condition. It has been speculated that heading the ball could create a greater risk of developing the illness.
The study, titled 'Football's Influence on Lifelong Health and Dementia Risk', will be headed by Dr Willie Stewart, who claimed former striker Jeff Astle died because of repeated head trauma.
