The eagerly-anticipated 2017 edition of the Tour de France is to set to begin on the 1 July and confirmed riders for teams are starting to be announced.
Team Sky’s attempt at securing the yellow jersey sees Chris Froome as head of the team. The Briton will be aiming for a third successive win and fourth overall, having won the Tour in 2013, 2015 and 2016.
The 32-year-old will be joined by two other Britons. Luke Rowe will be making the journey to the Grand Depart in Dusseldorf with Welshman Geraint Thomas.
31-year-old Thomas led the team in the Giro d’Italia but his efforts were cut short by an unfortunate crash with a parked police motorbike on stage nine.
This year’s Tour is set to be an open affair largely playing out of the hands of Froome, with a route that features less mountain top finishes and shorter time trials than last year – disciplines which suit the strengths of the Kenya-born rider.
