Jared Donaldson aggressively confronted the umpire on court at the Monte Carlo Masters.
The world number 51 disagreed with a call from official Arnaut Gabas following a serve from opponent Albert Ramos-Vinolas.
American Donaldson, 21, asked the umpire to come on to the court to see that his decision to call the ball in was incorrect. Hawkeye footage, which was unavailable at the time, shows Donaldson to have been correct.
However, he drew some ire from the crowd after he was seen shouting in Gabas' face and repeatedly called for the supervisor to also attend the court.
Following a drawn-out argument Donaldson was handed a code violation.
Donaldson eventually lost 6-3 6-3 and apologised to his opponent for his behaviour, but refused to shake Gabas' hand.
