Only a month after Ronald Koeman said he “100 per cent” expected Ross Barkley to leave Everton the Toffees boss has now said the midfielder may remain at the club.
At a press conference, the Dutch manager said: "If there's no interest he will be part of team. He is training with Everton, he is part of the team and training in a good way."
Barkley, 23, has confused many observers with his stance – seemingly wanting to leave the club towards the end of last season but, despite links with top clubs, no offers from other teams have been forthcoming.
He has been left in no man’s land and it appears he has now come gingerly back into the Everton fold with his tail between his legs.
Barkley came through the youth system at Everton and has played 150 times for the club in the Premier League, scoring 21 times, since making his debut six years ago.
He has missed most of preseason due to a groin injury.
Everton have set a £50m fee for Barkley, which could drop before the transfer window closes at the end of the month because he will be a free agent in 12 months time.
