Kyle Edmund’s inspiring run through the Australian Open has come to an end at the hands of world number six Marin Cilic.
The 23-year-old Briton was beat by the Croatian 6-2 7-6 (7-4) 6-2. Cilic, 29, has reached his first final in Melbourne.
Edmund had been trying to become just the fourth British man to reach a Grand Slam final since tennis turned professional in 1968.
His ranking is now set to rise from 49th in the world to around 25th next week.
