Liverpool have agreed a club record deal that will see Naby Keita arrive from Leipzig in July 2018.
The 22-year-old will move to Anfield after the Reds agreed to pay a £48m release clause.
The previous club record was held by Andy Carrol, who moved to Merseyside from Newcastle for £35m in 2011.
So far in this transfer window Liverpool have signed winger Mohamed Salah from Roma for £34m, full-back Andrew Robertson from Hull for £8m and striker Dominic Solanke after his contract at Chelsea expired.
