Liverpool are to contest the length of Sadio Mane’s suspension after he was given a three-match ban following a red card against Manchester City on Saturday, 9 September.
During Liverpool’s 5-0 defeat Mane, 25, was ordered to leave the pitch after a high foot left City’s goalkeeper, Ederson, requiring stitches.
The Senegal forward is due to miss Premier League matches against Burnley and Leicester, as well as a trip to the latter in the EFL Cup.
The challenge did not look malicious and Mane appeared to only have eyes for the ball but the speed of the challenge, as well as the height of his foot, put the keeper in danger.
Observers, including Alan Shearer, Gary Lineker and Ian Wright, have said they would all have gone for the ball in the same situation.
