A petition has been launched to get pie-eating Sutton United goalie Wayne Shaw his job back after he resigned over a betting scandal.
The 23-stone stopper was filmed eating on a pie at the side line during the South London team's match against Arsenal on Monday. Reports emerged later that day that a tabloid had been offering bets against him eating a pie on the bench. The Football Association and the Gambling Commission both announced plans to investigate whether there was a breach of betting rules.
Just hours after the club’s FA defeat Shaw was asked resign. Now an online campaign has called for the goalie to be reinstated. With over 1,500 signatures since it was started last night - the petition will be handed to Sutton United once it reaches the target.
Supporters have backed the fan favourite, saying the pie-eating stunt was just a joke taken the wrong way.
